I used a 12mm crochet hook for this.

All I meant to do was swatch it quickly to see what its dyed color-changing effects looked like with slip stitches. As you can see, each stitch is so big that it takes up a color.

The yarn has a hand-painted look. I hadn’t tried a sl st “game” (see my Crochet to the Color Playbook) yet, nor had I tried a super-bulky yarn instead of sock yarns.

The colors don’t really form a pattern but I kept going. It was really cold out and I needed a new yoke-type cowl for walking at night.

I love changing sl sts as I go as a shaping technique. Both sides of these stitches are interesting and drape differently when stretched, so this adds to the ways of wearing it.

The combination of these two slip stitches did not result in a wide enough shape to wear as a capelet. I started over, added some short rows, and the off-white Expedient Cowl is the result.

This Slipslab can be wrapped very snugly around the neck and shoulders and quickly pinned. I like using a large stitch holder as a pin!
