Notes

After using summery yarns to make this scarf, I wanted to see what a winter wool one would be like. The Tss stitch has been famous for making warm afghans since the 1970’s, and adding an eyelet edging is a traditional thing to do with knits.

When I bought this yarn years ago I had no idea the colors of it would look like this. Now I wish I’d bought a second skein of it, but even just one skein made a good sized neckwarmer, 10” x 34”.

Other yarns I’d use for this winter version would be:

  • At least 50% of its content a natural animal fiber, for warmth of course but mainly because it means it would block nicely (without having to ‘kill’ the acrylic.) Alpaca and some fine merinos would add silk-like drape along with a lot of warmth. Cashmere would be so luxe against the skin!
  • I’d love angora, but I’d avoid a yarn with more than 25% angora content so that I can still see some of the stitch definition.
