Solid Socks April 2012: Challenge Yellow

The first 6 pictures are a closer representation of the true color of the sock. It is bright yellow, a pure sunshiney yellow. Not quite highlighter yellow (believe me, there was a skein of that at the LYS and I put it down), but just a pure sunny yellow. I placed the sock against a black background (OK, my black felt pullover) in order to show the contrast when the color is placed against a dark background. The black background completely washed the color out. The last picture was taken late at night with flash

The feel of the yarn is soft but slippery, like silk but better. I will definitely buy more of this yarn from my LYS

Sock 1 weighs 38 grams ~ 151 yards. Sock 2 weighs 39 gram

NOTES:

  • I made the tall sock (1.5 repeats of the main sock repeat). One repeat made a sock only 4 inches high, so in order to qualify for SKA, I needed the extra .5 repeat, which made my sock 6.25 inches in the leg.
  • Full sock required 3 repeats of main pattern, 1.5 for the leg, ~0.5 for the gusset decreases, and 1 repeat for the foot.
  • For the heel flap, when slipping stitches, hold the yarn to the inside of the heel (in other words, slip across knit stitches, which looks wrong, but is actually right)
  • Made the cuff of the second sock using a size 3 needle for the larger size needle and my usual size 0 for the smaller size. If I knit this sock again, I would probably use a size 2 or a 1.5 for the larger needle.

To bind off in pattern:

  • Front: knit, leave on
  • Back: knit, leave on, Repeat to end:
  • Front: purl, knit
  • Back: purl, knit
