Beads from Sea of Beads Austin, TX

4/2/2011-30 repeats of the rose leaf pattern so far & 44 gm of yarn left. I’m just gonna keep going until I get down to about 20 gm.

Roughly 118 hours knitting time.

This pattern was extremely confusing. I think they could’ve spent more $$ on charts rather than beatiful pictures! A few notes to help anyone else & maybe myself.

Diamond Border:
One key that I don’t think the book explains….look at Chart A. Do you see that one stitch that is included in the right border & the left border? It is included within the brackets for both right & left. Well, it is shared by the right border & the next repeat of the 18 stitch pattern which they call left border. So, on the first row after you’ve done the 1st 6 sts in garter you will have the 18 sts for right border up to the dark line. Then you will do the next stitch (SK2P), then continue with the remaining 17 sts for the next repeat which they call left border. I actually put my markers so that there were 19 sts in the right border, then 17 in the next section & then 18 in the remaining repeats. This holds true on both sides. The right border & the first repeat of the left border share that one stitch on every row.

And in the last left border there is an extra stitch which you can either put with the 6 garter st or with the final left border. I put it in the final left border because it is a pattern st & not a garter edge st.

The other problem I had with this pattern is that you have to move your markers a few times in the diamond border, I think that’s on row 1 and row 5 where you have the SK2P.

Once you get past the edging it is a relatively easy pattern because there is no more sharing of that one stitch. I actually copied & pasted the Chart B in between the right & left border to make one large chart.

Just don’t forget what you did on the Diamond border (as I did!!) because you have to do it again at the other end.

Here is how my 121 sts were separated by markers for the Diamond border:
edge=6
right border=19
next diamond (left border chart excluding 1st st=17
next diamond (left border chart)=18
next diamond (left border chart)=18
next diamond (left border chart)=18
next diamond (left border chart plus 1 st)=19
edge=6
