Trying to decide between small and medium. Decided to go with medium but …
Was at the spilt for the body and the arms and - ARGH! - noticed an error on the right front vine pattern far enough back to require ripping. Sigh. Was on schedule to finish with plenty of time and now things look grim. Serious knitting has to happen the rest of the week.
Okay - back to where I was & onward. Decided to make it a regular sweater, not a cardigan, to do some waist shaping, and to make the body before the sleeves. Adjustments so far:
Cast on 2 at the join
Cast on 4 under each arm
Now first decrease for waist after 12 rows.
Two days later… What idiot (me) would decide to knit a full wool sweater for a July deadline project? Does it get sillier? Of course, I am going to do my best but I am worried that a) I won’t finish in time and b) could run out of yarn before the end anyway. On to my third skein. I have weighed it and am counting on the rule of thumb that sleeves take about 1/2 the yarn that the body does. Since I am on my 3rd skein of 4, I figure I should reserve 1/2 of this skein. ☺
Next day … Have transitioned to brown. Really baffled why this is taking more yarn but not doing any magical thinking. I should have done the SMALL but I like the brown at the bottom so no complaints.
Finished! One skein slightly different and I see it but maybe no one else will. Following are my alterations to the original to suit me…
Joined together at end of lace to make a pullover by casting on 3 stitches and joining in the round.
Decreased 4 stitches at sides every 12 rounds 5 times
Increased 4 stitches every 12 rounds 4 times for body shaping.
Picked up & knit down in the round for sleeves - decreasing to 55 stitches (2 stitches every 8 rounds) then bound off with a picot edging.
