17 jul: finished last night, ends woven in and buttons attached. It needs a wash to even out some of the stitches but it is done :) I really like it.
15 jul: one sleeve is done, the other halfway!
12 jul: started one of the sleeves last night. Need to look up how long the sleeves should be before I get too much further.
3 jul: body’s done, and looks quite long (I am ok with that). I repeated the yo/rib/garter detail at the hem and will also repeat at the cuff. Next up: sleeves! Need to find some us7 dpns for that though, I don’t feel up to magic looping wee babby sleeves!
The body took just over 1 ball of yarn.
29 jun: I went back to Knitting Around and EZ says that the yoke length for kids should be the same as adults -- half of the width of the sweater (or 1/4 if you are thinking about the entire circumference vs. flat). In my case, 5” since I am making a 20” / 10”x2 sweater. Mine was only at about 4-4.5” or so. I ripped back and reknit 6 more rounds in plain stst before slipping the sleeves off to waste yarn. It looks a little more proportional now.
EZ also says that the increases for the yoke (or decreases technically, since her instructions were for bottom up, not top-down) should all be worked in the top 50% of the yoke (near the collar). I didn’t quite do that either but I think it will be ok. The collar itself looks a little small but it’s a cardigan so I am just going to sew up the buttonhole at the top and consider it a design element. I’m a couple of inches below the armpits at this point.
27 jun: cast on 45 st -- 10 of them will be the garter st buttonband.
21 jun: planning stage, hope to cast on this week.
based on EPS:
20” x 4spi = 80st is my K
neck = .5K = 40 st
sleeves = .4K = 32 st
total at max = 80 body + 32 sleeve + 32 sleeve = 144st
CO 40 st
inc every st = 80 st
inc every other st = 120 st
inc every fourth st = 150 st
close enough, probably.
cardigan, just three buttons at the top. Patterned similar to this: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/cardigan-3
