Finished December 2014! Learn from me: use the same hook throughout. I used several different G hooks made of different materials, and my hexagons came out different sizes. I just went with it, but it made the seams a bit difficult at times.

Yarn usage is estimated based on pattern’s called amounts.

My sister’s birthday is December. She gets sad if it doesn’t snow on her birthday, so I’m making some snow for her & her family as a Christmas gift. :)

Nov 2012: Hoping to finish for this Christmas. Don’t think I’ll do the full 59 motifs; thinking of aiming for either 46 or 50. Hexagon count:

My snowflakes are hexagonal. In geology, columnar jointing is a geological structure where sets of intersecting closely spaced fractures, referred to as joints, result in the formation of a regular array of polygonal prisms, or columns. Columnar jointing occurs in many types of volcanic rocks and forms as the rock cools and contracts. An example of hexagonal columnar jointing is the Giant’s Causeway in Ireland.
