Notes

Was not sure which pattern to get for the birthday sale this year, but the MKAL does not seem to be for me, so I went for this pattern instead.

October 28, 2022

Started section 3, will use the self-striping yarn and “save” one colour. Used the Meilenweit and Aktiv for sections 1 and 2.

October 29, 2022

Do not like how the double yarn overs look, so I will only do 10 rows instead of 12. Also currently plan to skip most of the lace elements and do bobbles and brioche instead - yes, plan also to omitt the criss cross.

In addition, I ended up with double the number of stitches that I should have, i.e. 206 instead of 103, so I will decrease what is too much - this might end up a little ruffly, but I think I can even-----

No - as I did not like the lace anyway, I ripped it out and ended with 59 stitches after section 2 - I should have 56… now to see how I can do brioche instead.

October 29, 2022

So, I must have had messed up the increases between thin stripes and double yarnovers - should have increased only 30 stitches there. So I will sneak those in after the brioche section.

October 30, 2022

Reached 182 stitches after row 2 of thin stripes in section 6, will repeat only once to 184 stitches and will then do another brioche section instead of criss cross

Found a chart for eyelet basket weave here »
and one for the bubble stitch here »

November 6, 2022

Plan to increase 2 stitches every other row until I have a total of 329 stitches, then will increase 45 stitches as given in section 15. Counted 286 stitches after end of grey brioche ribs after eylet basketweave.

November 18, 2022

Increased to 376 stitches. Will increase 2 stitches after the icords until I have app. 410 stitches.

November 26, 2022

Started the edging - will do the chevrons from Exploration Station again.

November 28, 2022

Finished - did 27 spikes and a half one at each side, i.e. it should have been around 400 stitches in the end, but it still is huuuuge.

Did 8 repeats of the chevron pattern in which I used nearly all of the Opal yarn, so I had to use another solid coloured yarn for the I-cord bind off.

So I used 250 g and a little for this shawl and really like how it turned out, though it is more of a bobbles and brioche than a smargasboard.
