Made for baby boy due in February, so I used more “boyish” colors. Wanted a “woodsy” or “cabin-y” feel, and was inspired by a plaid border by Susan Kuhl (no written pattern yet) and made up my own border. I chose Black, White, Silver and Gray for the Gingham/Plaid and played around with the colors until I got an arrangement I liked.

Started with 1 row SC in Black (3SC in corners).

Then I worked around each row with 3DC of Color 1, 3DC of Color 2, 3DC Color 1, 3DC Color 2 and repeated that around carrying unused color under stitches (3DC in Corners).

Then next row I did 3DC Color 3 and 3DC Color 4 etc around. The corners were a bit tricky, and I ended up doing 2DC a few times before and after corner to “split” the middle 3DC color and carry the plaid coloring out, but got it to work.

Then to finish, 1 row SC in Black, 3 in corners, then 1 row RSC (Crabstitch) to give it a nice edge.
