In previous years this project was known as “Crafting Blankets for Our Homeless Neighbours”. During the pandemic all of our recipients closed shop and/or stopped receiving donations. Over the past few months we’ve tried to find other local places that assist homeless folks who’ll take our blankets, but no luck.

So we have reinvented ourselves as “Crafting Blankets for Our Community”. We are a Social Justice Circle of the First Universalist Church of Rochester, NY, assisting our community by making blankets for donation. Our new recipients are the Nativity Preparatory Academy and the Pluta Cancer Foundation. There are currently about 12 of us making blanket squares & assembling blankets. I am very happy that we have been able to start up again during these still-challenging times!

I also want to remember our beloved friend Ruth Fitzgerald, who passed away this summer. She managed to find ways to get her gorgeous squares to me after entering a nursing home last year, and there are still squares waiting for a ride to my house. Ruth’s devotion to this project was amazing, & I will remember her fondly as I use her squares to assemble even more blankets for our community.
