Am knitting these in a KAL with Hayley and Kairee from my knitting group. Both Hayley or Kairee have never knit socks before and so I agreed to teach them and knit a pair of plain jane socks. I opted to do knee socks.
I normally like my socks on 2.25mm needles, but Felici is really thin and so I had to go down a needle size.
My gauge is 13 sts per inch on 2.0mm.
September 29, 2011:
Have knit the foot to 6.75” before starting a short-row heel. But will have to wait to turn the heel tomorrow at knit night when I can do it with Hayley.
:: UPDATE ::
June 20, 2014:
I’ve resisted the urge to cast on a new pair of socks and opted to actually finish a sock WIP. Since these have been on the needles for over 3 years, I think it’s about time they get done!!! I’m not sure if these will turn into knee socks anymore, as I can’t find that 3rd skein!
I’ve also decided to rip out the short-row heel as I really didn’t like how it looked. Instead I’m knitting a gusset heel (gasp! Not an afterthought?!?) to see how the stripes will play out and look.
June 24, 2014:
I’ve knit up both socks to the cuff! Yes, these were already almost halfway done when I picked them back up again but I’m quite surprised that they’ve knit up this fast. I better start thinking what my next pair of socks is going to be!
June 26, 2014:
After over 3 years of being a WIP on the needles, these socks are FINALLY done, done, done!!!! I’m glad I ripped back and re-did the heels, I’ll definitely be wearing these bad boys a lot when the cold weather hits!
Leftover: 20g.
How I knit these:
- not sure any more how many sts were CO for the toes.
- increased to 64sts
- knit until foot measured 6.75” from the tip of toe.
- knit gusset heel
- knit leg until measures 5.25” from the top of gusset
- knit 2x2 ribbing for 1”
- BO using Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy BO.
Even though I had CO these years ago, I think they were an old enough WIP that I can use them for the Socks With Sarah KAL. So these are the 6th pair!
