Notes

Blogged here.

Unblocked st st gauge: 19 sts per 4”

blocked st st gauge: 17.5 sts, which is close enough to pattern gauge, and I like the fabric

N’s chest is 37.5”

A sweatshirt he likes the fit of is 43” chest circumference (5-6” ease)

Tubular cast-on for a neater edge, used this video and while it felt a little tedious in the middle or working it, I am very pleased with the neatness of this tubular cast-on and found the tutorial very easy to follow (for tubular CO in the round 1x1 rib)

To avoid a too-cinched-in hem, I actually went UP two needle sizes for the ribbing to US 9. Then switched to US 7 for the st st.

Added length to the body, for total length of 17” from the under arms to hem..

Sleeves are knit per pattern, however, my gauge is smaller on the smaller length circumference needles, but the sizing is still okay, per my husband.

Sleeve ecreases are tweaked, as follows:

(K 13 rows, dec round) x3
32 rows plain st st, dec
K 7 rows, dec round x4
Cuff for 18 rounds, using size 7 for cuff rib (didn’t want them to feel tight)

Neck: Knit 3” of 1x1 rib, then folded over and seamed/BO (per pattern instructions)--no purl bump row, just as a preference.

Used almost exactly 7 skeins, making this a very economical sweater (around $30ish for all the yarn)

after blocking, bottom ribbing is too loose (shoot!) so reknitting on US 8 with same tubular CO video linked above.

After re-knitting on US 8’s and adding an additional inch of stockinette stitch, I blocked the new segment, and then cut the hem off the finished sweater, then grafted on the newly knitted bottom hem + one inch of st st. (I only fiddled with it this way, since it’s knit bottom-up).

Followed instructions for grafting from this video

After “Sweater surgery,” this fit is great! We are both pleased.

Great pattern.
