Swatching for plain st st with US 4 needles

Debating between brown for MC or beige for MC

st st gauge: getting 25 st per 4” on US 4. I can’t imagine sizing up even larger with needle size, so I may have to play around with gauge on this one.

okay, since my gauge was SO off, swatching again with colorwork on US 7s and plain st st on US 6. also the blue wasn’t high enough contrast, so swapped that out for yellow.

still getting 21.5 sts per 4”, and I don’t want the fabric to be any looser, so I will fiddle with sizing and gauge. 21 sts per inch with plain st st. Planning to knit the third size, but hoping for measurements closer to the second size.

2/27/23 : colorwork yoke is done, and I’ve added a lifeline. It’s measuring the depth of size 2, which is my goal (use numbers for size 3, but get finished garment measurements closer to size 2).

Added length to body (I’ll measure and see how much)
Body and neck ribbing done with US 6 needles.

Sleeve length added (I knit them 2” longer than specified in the pattern, this is typical for me) and I omitted the last two decreases for my size (size 3), and instead did two sets of decreases in the same round evenly spaced the round before beginning the cuff. Used US 5 for round before cuff and cuff. Cuff knit with MC for 12 rounds of 1x1 rib before Italian BO.

THRILLED with this sweater: the fit, the yarn, the colors, and how lightweight it is. Blocking is magic.
