Happy brioche knitting time!

I have a daughter whose name is Eleonora. As soon as she saw my work on the needles, she already knew, this hat was going to be her autumn “must have“ eyecatcher. And voila!, she got it.
I love brioche knitting and this little piece is comfortable, playful, warm, perfectly slouchy, stretchy and finally easy to knit.*

The pattern is fully written and also includes charted instructions (Page 8), check both. It has been throughly tested and tech edited.

This hat is worked in the round from the bottom up, starting with the brim, continuing with body part and ending with the crown.
Two-color brioche is unique and the result is like two different hats - you can wear both sides. Two-color brioche stitch creates a gorgeous reversible fabric.
This beanie is an average adult size version - if you want a shorter or bigger size – do more or fewer sections, more rounds up (brioche plain rounds) or use larger needles. The pattern sizes match the petrol blue (Kajo) and white (Sake) beanie shown.

YARN:
Yarn: Tukuwool Sock (Sport weight), 175 yards (160 meters) / 50grams (1.76 ounces), 80% Wool and
20% Manufactured Fibers - Nylon / Polyamide
MC yarn – Kajo; CC yarn – Sake. Or use any other Sport weight yarn.

YARN CONSUMPTION: 40 gr/1.40 oz of each color, MC and CC. My beanie weighs exactly 80 gr/2.8oz

NEEDLES: 16” (40cm) circular needle or DPNs (double pointed needles) in US 2 1/2 /3.00mm for ribbing and US 4/3.5mm for pattern.

SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate brioche.
Two - color brioche.

TECHNIQUES USED: Knitting/brioching in the round, knitting, purling, brioche decreases/increases (brLsl dec, brRsl dec, brk1, brp1, sl1yo).

FINISHED SIZE: average women’s size (beanie in the picture):
Depth – 24cm (9.5“)
Circ - 46cm (18“) Fits head about 57cm (22.5“)
Measurements taken un-blocked. Hats are shown in a 22.5” / 57cm head circumference.

OTHER TOOLS: Tapestry needle; scissors; round counter; stitch marker (if needed) for marking the beginning of the round.

GAUGE: 22 sts x 26 rows = 4“ 10cm in two-color brioche stitch (knitted US 4/ 3.5mm needles)

Needle sizes are recommendations only. Always use needle size necessary to achieve given gauge (to save your time).
My personal knitting tension is tight. If yours isn’t, consider using perhaps US 1 ½ (2.5mm) needles.

And thank you my dear test knitters. Without you, this pattern isn’t here ….
