2022 update: the pattern has been completely reworked from cast-on to bind-off:

1. The setup is redesigned to eliminate the “hump”.

2. The edges are now stretchier, blocking the finished shawl easier.

3. The short rows have clearer notes.

4. The stitch count for each repeat.

5. Picot bind-off instructions.

6. The new layout reflects my current style of writing.

The older version will remain on Ravelry for a while but eventually will be removed.

Gardens of Giverny Shawl is now available in rectangular version Gardens of Giverny Stole.

Gardens of Giverny shawl and stole were inspired by paintings of Claude Monet. He fell in love with Giverny while looking out of a train window. He bought a house and land and set out to create the magnificent gardens he wanted to paint. Some of his most famous paintings were of his gardens in Giverny. This shawl is like his paintings — balanced brightly colored lace patches surrounded by simple garter frames.

Shawl worked neck-down, in garter stitch with short row(no wraps) sections of simple lace in-between. Size is completely customizable, it can be a big shawl or a small shawlette.

Pattern available in two formats: compact (2 pages) and large print (6 pages) - instructions in larger print format (this version is better for those who use portable devices like tablets and e-readers; also for those knitters who have difficulties reading small font on paper)

The exact gauge is not important for this project, however, reversed gauge — each lace segment measures 2.75” x1.25” after blocking. Malabrigo Sock is superwash merino, which grows significantly while wet.

Sample shawl — 74”x26”(blocked)

Border(MC): Malabrigo Sock in Solis, approx. 285yds
Lace(CC): Malabrigo Sock in Arco Iris, approx. 410 yds
