After an undisclosed number of viewings, Labyrinth remains my favorite movie of all time. Curled up in my favorite chair with popcorn-scented fingers working on another project, and idea formed: Labyrinth mitts would be awesome1.

From there it became a question of what to put on them, and later, the realization that only Ludo had the hands to wear everything that I wanted on them. The Escher stairs had to make an appearance, as did a Random Black Chicken, a crystal for each palm, an owl feather, the clock, and of course the namesake labyrinth with castle.

The left side labyrinth is indeed solvable, provide you choose the correct door. Whether that door has a knocker or puzzle in front of it is up to you.

Any attempts at adding a piece of cake were met with epic failure. I should have known, really.

Technical Details:
Uses about 200 yds of main color and contrast color. An optional third color was used for the lowest text, about 25 yds used.

Mitts are shown in Knit Picks Palette: Oyster Heather and Forest Heather for the MC and CC with Dream in Color Starry: Good Luck Jade as the second CC.

There are long floats in the design2. Knowledge of tacking sts is essential.

The pattern is fully charted.

Final mitts will be a little more than 8 inches in diameter, not including the thumb.

  1. The author denies ever having performed a “Mitts Magic Mitts” song.

  2. It’s not fair, but that’s just the way the design worked out.
