Monstera is the boxy shaped cardigan of my dreams.
Its construction is really simple, with clear lines and not a lot of shaping… But what makes this a stellar and striking piece is the myriad of cables that run in every direction, interlocked and connected, like we all are.
I first designed this cardigan to wear at VKL, last January. It took a big effort to finish it in time. It is a big commitment, and I had to be constant about it… But it was so worth it. I had never worked so many cables at a small gauge and the texture achieved is just incredible.
Thee yarn I chose does this sweater all the justice: La Bien Aimée Merino Sport is bouncy and even… and very hard wearing. My work will last years and years ❤️
I hope you like my Monstera design, it is not a quick project, but it’s one that will help you relax by following the rhythmic flow of cables and watching them grow.
The cardigan is very easy to wear, with its relaxed fit and open front, and will complement a fancy or your every day lockdown outfit ;)

SIZING - IMPORTANT!
Because this pattern’s most stunning feature is the continuity of its cables, and given that we used a big cable repeat, each size ‘jump’ has 2 more cables on the back and 1 more cable on each front than the previous size. Therefore, I only graded this for 5 sizes.
I recommend between 4 and 12” inches of positive ease depending on how you like to wear your clothes.
Sizes: 1 (2, 3, 4, 5). Shown in size 2 on a 36” bust.

MATERIALS
About the yarn (important too!): The yarn used for this design is listed as a sport weight, but feels a lot like a fingering weight, so feel free to substitute with a fingering weight if that’s what you have in stash.
Yarn: 4 (5, 6, 7, 8) skeins of Merino Sport by La Bien Aimée 100% merino - 100g / 355y (325m) or approx. 1313 (1668, 2023, 2307, 2662) yards 1202 (1527, 1852, 2112, 1437) m of fingering or light sport weight yarn. The sample was knit using colorway Patagonia.
Needles: US 4 (3.5 mm) and US 2½ (3 mm) circular needles, at least 32” long. US 2½ (3 mm) double pointed needles for i-cord bind off.
Other notions: Stitch markers, safety pin, cable needle, stitch holders, tapestry needle.

GAUGE
28 sts and 40 rows to 4” (10cm) in cabled pattern on US 4 (3.5 mm) needles.
