Introduction

The charts of this pattern Mosaic Compilation started as additions I made to the Havana Blanket pattern by Tinna Thórudóttir Thorvaldsdóttir. I adapted some mosaic knitting patterns by Barbara Walker and designed others myself. I shared these charts in the Facebook group Pippin Crochet Club and the people there used them for making all kinds of beautiful things.
Now I made a Compilation of these patterns, that have beautiful transitions. It can be used to make a big blanket. It’s also possible, as many have done, to use a chart to make a cushion, a hat, or anything you can imagine. Some people only used one chart for a whole blanket, with beautiful results.

Pattern

The pattern is 26 pages, with a lot of detail and explanation to make sure a beginner in mosaic crochet can understand. It contains a photo tutorial to mosaic crochet and introduction to reading the charts. The pattern contains charts and also the written pattern.

Variations

When you use all 10 designs and a 4,5 mm hook the total length of your blanket will be 180 centimeters (71 inches) by around 120 centimeters (47 inches).
For a blanket without the border you will need about 750 grams (26,5 ounces) of color A and 750 grams (26,5 ounces) of color B.
For a blanket with the simple double border you will need about 280 grams (10 ounces) additional yarn, in the color of your choice.

Mosaic crochet

In mosaic crochet you are painting with different colors yarn. The single crochets create horizontal lines, the double crochets create vertical lines. I’m using the one row method of mosaic crochet, also known as the overlay mosaic crochet.
The amazing thing about mosaic crochet is that it looks complicated, but it actually is very simple. Each row is worked with only one color. All the uneven rows are worked with color A, all the even rows are worked with color B.
And you only use two stitches (I’m using US terms for the different stitches); a single crochet in the back loop the row you always work in and a double crochet in the front loop one row below the row you would normally work in.
I’ll explain both stitches in more detail in the pattern I also teach you how to read the charts.

Color use

With the colors you choose you can make this pattern your own and make it a masterpiece!
To make sure your pattern stands out, choose a color A and a color B that have a nice contrast. You can use one color A and one color B for the whole project, or you can vary your color A or your color B. Or even vary your color A and your color B.
