I made a Teaser Trailer for this pattern, where I talk about construction, techniques, yarn choice, and modifications. Check it out!

The Scrap Lat Hat is a fun knit with an unusual construction, ideal for using up favorite scraps or a mini-skein set. The Latvian braids are a super easy design detail that gives this accessory a special flair. Knit one as a gift, or keep it for yourself!

There are several options for how you can stripe in your colors, and I do all the math on spacing and yardage for you based on the number of sections you want!

SIZES
Circumference: 20 (21, 22, 24)“ / 51 (53.5, 56, 61) cm

YARN
TOTAL of 185 (245, 290, 320) yards / 170 (225, 265, 295) m of fingering weight yarn

My colorblocked sample shown in Murky Depths Dyeworks Lucerne mini-set

My solid sample shown in

  • MC: Woolberry Fiber Co Berry Merino in the colorway Homemade Jam
  • Blue: Forbidden Fiber colorway Destiny
  • Pale Green: Traveling Yarn colorway Jade
  • Green: Murky Depths colorway Never Enough Thyme
  • Lavender: Long Dog colorway Parisian Mist
  • Pink: Woolberry Fiber Co colorway Vintage

Pretty much any fiber content can be used in this hat, but I would recommend using a yarn with good memory (like a sock yarn) that won’t stretch out over time for the brim.
