A starry firmament isn't easy to photograph. The camera tends to focus on what's behind it. Also, in person the background details don't distract like they do in photographs. So, too cluttered here, but I do like the rich red contrast to the green plants.

Look at this view the air plants have from the windows of their cosmic condos! Now they know what it's like to grow up in the wonderful Great Lakes region. (Fortunately for them, they're still in the hot humid subtropics.)

Grid panel as inspiration board, before I tried tying on wee crocheted stars. That blue motif was crocheted onto the grid, and it does look kind of promising, but I didn't enjoy it. Too fiddly.

This is an upcycled 14” x 14” common metal gridwall panel, like the kind used to create modular shelving in college dorms. Or, to build a show booth at yarn conferences wink .

This one has been painted in glossy navy blue then sprayed with fine multicolored glitter. Why though?

  • Because these grid panels are really pretty versatile and
  • I have stacks of them
  • Some are even starting to rust a little and I don’t want to just throw them away
  • I’m inspired by current trends using them for wall organizers--like cork boards for photos etc but with little clips
  • And especially the trend for displaying heart air plants heart !!

So this is a cosmic condominium for astral air plants.

The crocheted stars are different mainly because they’re swatches. All but one are made in a strip fashion rather than starting in a ring.
I love that they look sort of as if Edward Gorey sketched them.
