This pattern can be used to create a square shawl, and also:

A lap blanket
A baby blanket
An extra layer on your office chair
An airplane / travel blanket
A car blanket
A sofa throw blanket
A large bed blanket
A wall hanging**

When I wrote the pattern for the Wave of Change Pullover, I wrote, “I believe every single person has the power to effect change through daily acts of kindness. Like a stone dropped into still waters creates a ripple effect, we too can create a wave of change.”

Envision the cast-on stitches at the center of this project as a stone dropped in still waters. The concentric purl ridges represent love, kindness, and joy amplified! My hope is that you will make this pattern for yourself and for someone you love. Make it as a family heirloom to be passed down for generations to come!

When you wear this shawl or snuggle under the blanket, I hope you feel you are wrapping yourself in all the feel-goods!

Construction:
Although this pattern creates a square flat shawl or blanket, it is worked in the round by knitting around the perimeter of the project. Therefore, we will only be working on the right side. Those who are familiar with crochet will recognize this construction, as it resembles the construction of a granny square. We’ll start in the center and work outwards.

Sizes
Shawl: 34”/ 86 cm Square in sport weight yarn
Blanket: 60” / 152 cm Square in bulky weight yarn
A schematic is included.

Materials

Yarn:**
Shawl: Journey Sport by Julie Asselin, Latte colorway (80% Rambouillet, 20% Targhee, 210 yds / 192 m = 56 g) 5 skeins or approx 1050 yds / 960 m of sport weight yarn.

Blanket: Douillet by Julie Asselin, Safran colorway (Rambouillet + Columbia wools, 135 yds / 124 m = 115 g) 18 skeins or approx 2430 yds / 2232 m of bulky weight yarn.

These are the recommended yarns to achieve similar results, as pictured. But, this pattern can be knit in any yarn weight.

Needles:

Shawl: US 3 / 3.25 mm circular needles on a 38” / 96 cm cable, or longer

Blanket: US 10 / 6 mm circular needles on a 40” / 101 cm cable. As your blanket grows, you will need a much longer cable in order to hold all the stitches. I used an interchangeable needle set so that I could extend my cable as needed. For the blanket, my needles toward the end were 82 “ / 208 cm long from tip to tip.

Notions, all linked in the pattern:
circular needles
standard stitch markers
tapestry needle
row counter
yarn snips
Eucalan wool wash
Optional, if making a wall hanging:
Command 3M hooks
cafe rod
1.5” grosgrain ribbon
pen
