This adorable monster was originally created for a Little Skein in the Big Wool kit (2014) , and the pattern is now available for individual purchase.

Wild Thing is inspired by Maurice Sendak’s unconventional children’s story, “Where The Wild Things Are.” The pattern has instructions for a basic monster, as well as a monster wearing adorable pajamas, complete with a buttoned flap on his tushie.

Size: Wild Thing stands approximately 9” tall, from top of head to bottom of foot, when knit in worsted weight yarn

Yarn: Wild Thing was designed using Highland Handmades Green Ash Worsted yarn, in colors created especially for this project. Little Skein’s kits included 50g skeins of this beautiful, hand-dyed yarn, although you can also substitute any favorite worsted weight yarn.

Skills needed: To knit this monster, you will need to:

  • Be familiar with toy construction or be an adventurous beginner

  • Knit in the round

  • Increase and decrease stitches

  • Follow instructions for a three-needle decrease
