There’s nothing like the quiet of being in a snow covered forest. Everything feels hushed, the silence simultaneously calming and subliminally beautiful. Slivers of colour in green fir needles, brown bark, and frozen streams peek out from under the snow. The Wintery Woods mittens celebrate the quiet mix of colours in the woods, and will keep your hands warm and cozy during long winter walks.

Sizes
There are two sizes available in this pattern, small and large. Size 1 has a circumference of 18.5 cm, size 2 21cm, and size 3 22.5cm. The length of the mitten is after the beginning of the thumb is customizable. Choose the size closest to the measurement of your hand. If between sizes, I recommend sizing up.

Yarn and Yardage
This pattern works perfectly for fade sets, and allows for a smooth transition between colours. Three different colours are needed for this pattern. Colour 1 needs 40-70 yards, Colour 2 55-110 yards, and C3 85-150 yards. More or less of C3 may be needed depending on how long the mitten is after the beginning of the thumb.

Notions
Knitting needles (DPN’s or circulars), darning needle, stitch markers, and scrap yarn in a contrasting colour.

Techniques
These mittens are knit from the cuff up. The instructions for the colourwork transitions between colours are written and charted.

This pattern is recommended for knitters who are familiar with mitten construction, and are comfortable with minimal stranded colourwork.
